Calvinism vs Arminianism

I was saddened to hear about a highly respected Evangelist (last October) that declared that all calvinists were outside of the camp of Christianity. That is a really crazy position to be in. In lue of that, I read about a dialogue in 1784 between a calvinist and arminian and thought it was a pretty good alternative to calling folks anathema (outside of the camp). Read Below.. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- A young Minister (Charles Simeon), about three or four years after he was ordained, had an opportunity of conversing familiarly with the great and venerable leader of the Arminians(John Wesley) in this kingdom; and, wishing to improve the occasion to the uttermost, he addressed him nearly in the following words:

John Wesley vs. Charles Simeon --"Sir, I (Simeon) understand that you (Wesley)are called an Arminian; and I have been sometimes called a Calvinist; and therefore I suppose we are to draw daggers. But before I consent to begin the combat, with your permission I will ask you a few questions, not from impertinent curiosity, but for real instruction." Permission being very readily and kindly granted, the young Minister proceeded to ask, --"Pray, Sir, do you feel yourself a depraved creature, so depraved, that you would never have thought of turning unto God, if God had not first put [it] into your heart? --"Yes," says the veteran, "I do indeed." --"And do you utterly despair of recommending yourself to God by any thing that you can do; and look for salvation solely through the blood and righteousness of Christ?" --"Yes, solely through Christ." --"But, Sir, supposing you were first saved by Christ, are you not somehow or other to save yourself afterwards by your own works?" --"No; I must be saved by Christ from first to last." --"Allowing then that you were first turned by the grace of God, are you not in some way or other to keep yourself by your own power?" --"No." --"What then, are you to be upheld every hour and every moment by God, as much as an infant in its mother's arms?" --"Yes; altogether." --"And is all your hope in the grace and mercy of God to preserve you unto his heavenly kingdom?" --"Yes; I have no hope, but in him." --"Then, Sir, with your leave, I will put up my dagger again; for this is all my Calvinism; this is my election, my justification by faith, my final perseverance: it is, in substance, all that I hold, and as I hold it: and therefore, if you please, instead of searching out terms and phrases to be a ground of contention between us, we will cordially unite in those things wherein we agree." I realize that I've been focusing on politics alot in the last two and a half years. This is an issue in which God has dealing with me lately. Please forgive me for speaking as if it is the most important issue in life. As an ambassador for Christ, focusing on politics too much tends to make an idol out of patriotism and can damage our testimony for Christ and his Gospel. God is in control of EVERYTHING (including politics). Apart from the Gospel, every person will be judged according to their deeds and will be justly condemned for those actions. Our number one job should be talking about how merciful he is and sharing that Gospel to a dying world. That is the real change that needs to occur. I will focus on this as I go about sharing things on my Blog from now on. Thanks for understanding.

Our local newspapers are starting to get a little more bold in their pro-abortion ads. The university of Northern Iowa, Iowa and Birmingham, Alabama is responsible for them. The ads show a stork with a baby in the carrier in front of it, as shown below.

How cute....

The site makes a spoof of the stork as if they are delivering babies in mass volume, like UPS. Heres a brief paragraph about how they talk about it...

"...approximately 50% of the deliveries we make to 18 to 30 year olds in Iowa come as a surprise to their recipients. Surprise deliveries put people at risk for a lot of unfavorable life outcomes – like being poor, not finishing school, constantly smelling like baby powder, not achieving your dreams, losing your freedom, and learning to eat only pureed food (Delish!) before you are ready.

Here at S.O.D.S. we understand that an unexpected delivery can change bodies, budgets and future ambitions. Over the next couple of years, we’ll be flying into communities across Iowa to interrupt poorly planned dirty bird behavior. You know how it is, Abstinence (100% effective) isn't an option. Our kids in Iowa have no self-control and have to be promiscuous. Why, Children are looked at in such a way in these ads, that NO ONE in their right mind would ever want to "Ruin" their career by having to care about a little baby that God knit in a mother's womb. After all, YOUR wants and YOUR desires are most important in this life and if you make a "mistake" be sure and visit one of the planned parenthood/health clinics to help you make a "responsible" decision. Here's their advice.

"The best way to throw the Stork off your trail is to visit a Family Planning Clinic. Here, you can learn about the different ways you can avoid the Stork and get your questions answered about birth control options and what will work best for you. You can also talk to someone face-to-face about the tough choices of an unexpected delivery. So don't delay, these clinics are available to anyone who knows how to do the dirty bird, regardless of income level."

And don't you worry, they wouldn't dare to prescribe abortion as an option to avoid the stork. It's just an innocent campaign..... right?

I watched this video and thought it was an april fool's joke at first then realized he's serious.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want Rick Warren to be brought into the fold to preach, but then again i'm not John Piper. Read this to see some people going back and forth about it. I do know this, giving Warren a platform like this may lead people to think that it's really okay to throw caution to the wind and start reading his books (past/present/future).

This weekend in Cedar Rapids/Kolona

We got an opportunity to search for a new car seat for the new baby this weekend. Our old one was in bad shape from the move up here and was starting to rust. We started out on our mission by going to the new Little Ceasers for some cheap $5 pizza. One of the customer's held the door open for me and so I was able to show my gratitude by given her a Million Dollar Bill.

A great tagline is "Keep the change"...

After giving two out to the lady's friends, the guy behind the counter asked for one and then two other people wanted some more. All together i was able to give out 6 tracts. I was amazed it went that easy. Later on in the afternoon after doing some shopping in Kolona, we were able to give out some more to customers shopping at the grocery store there. In the evening, we went to Toys R Us on the south side and were unable to find any car seats that we were interested in, so we stopped by an drive thru for the kids dinner and I was able to give out a million dollar bill to the lady, who was impressed with the bill and started to talk about her involvment in youth group and had heard about the bills before from her pastor. I said she ought to check out the website on the bill (www.livingwaters.com) and to listen to some of the sermons there (Hell's Best Kept Secret is really great). I then went to another eatery for my wife's low carb dinner and she gave a tract to the cashier, who had a sense of humor and joked that he told his boss that we paid for the meal with the million dollar bill. Overall, we were able to go through 50 tracts for the whole visit, with the kids helping. What a great opportunity by God to give out these little pieces of paper with the Gospel message on it! It was pretty much a normal errand run that was an opportunity to give out some tracts. Please pray that God's spirit will draw them to himself and convict them of sin and lead them to repentance and faith in Christ for their eternal salvation.

Mark Cahill's coming to town

Mark Cahill will be here on March 29th! If we aren't welcoming Charity (baby number 7) into this world, it would be awesome to hear him speak. You can read more here.

My 2 oldest daughters heard about it from their "Bright Lights" teachers. These ladies witness regularly and they plan to go witnessing at the St. Patrick's Day parade on the 17th. I hope to take my family there and give out my obama million dollar bills.

Please pray for me, as I have been locked in spiritual battle for the last six months. He has been teaching me many things. God's grace is sufficient for me and he will get the glory. One of the most helpful things that have consistently helped me during this time is grace gems, I highly recommend any Christian to sign up, God has used it consistently to help me understand the scriptures and theology.

Also, pray for my wife as she is trying to keep the blood sugar down (Gestational Diabetes) and for her and the baby's safe delivery. FYI, after the baby is born, I plan on going witnessing with a group again every month. :)

An Opportunity for the Gospel...

I filled out the Census Bureau's "American Community Survey" book and essentially "gave them the keys to the kingdom" by shipping it back to them. But something strange is happening... they keep calling me asking me to do the survey over the phone saying that they haven't received it yet. Yesterday I called them back and the guy said that if they can't get the answers over the phone, they'll start sending "agents" over to get the information. So, after initially being annoying by the prospect of having storm troopers over at my house trying to pry the personal information out of me... i started thinking... What an opportunity!

Number 1: They don't mind if I call them!
Number 2: They might send someone over to talk with me!

The ultimate conclusion: I get to share the Gospel, one-to-one with everyone on the phone and in person, while answering their intrusive questions!!!!! WHAT A GREAT OPPORTUNITY!!! Thank you God for the Census Bureau!!!

I just bought three hundred of these new Obama Trillion dollar bill tracts. People here love them!

What's weird is the normal million dollar bill tracts got the worst scowls ever from the folks up here. Now that I have the Obama trillion dollar bill, people make positive comments, joke around, laugh. Not sure if its because of the affection for obama or not, but all i know is, it's great to see the Gospel get into their hands, instead of hitting the trash. Here is the message on the back.

The trillion dollar question: Will you go to Heaven when you die? Here's a quick test. Have you ever told a lie, stolen anything, or used God's name in vain? Jesus said, "Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Have you looked with lust? Will you be guilty on Judgment Day? If you have done those things, God sees you as a lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterer at heart. The Bible warns that if you are guilty you will end up in Hell. That's not God's will. He sent His Son to suffer and die on the cross for you. You broke God's Law, but Jesus paid your fine. That means He can legally dismiss your case. He can commute your death sentence: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." Then He rose from the dead and defeated death. Please, repent (turn from sin) today and trust in Jesus alone, and God will grant you the gift of everlasting life. Then read your Bible daily and obey it.

I was listening to a Mark Cahill audio book (Book Title: "One thing you can't do in heaven") today on the way in to work and was convicted of my lack of zeal for the lost. Then at work i got to hear this song.

I got the opportunity to see my pastor on TV the other night. It's kind of weird to see someone you know on TV. But I was glad that he was on there, because Iowa is leading the way in Gay Marriage. Most of you who read my blog will have a big problem with Gay Marriage as I do. But I know most of you and know that you believe that way because you take the scriptures literally and follow 2 Tim 3:16 (And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:). Because you take the scriptures literally, Biblically interpret the text Hermaneutically and let it inform you, versus you twisting and mangling the text to fit your worldview, you stay true to the word. But some people are upset at my pastor, because he chose to stick with the scriptures, instead of sacrificing the scriptures to the way of worldly wiseman.

I think rightly handling the word of God is really, really important. Afterall, the Bible has been and always will be able to stand the test of reliability and is so, because it is divinely inspired. So, as a Christian i hold up the scriptures and proclaim the Gospel, as written in the scriptures, so men may see their wretched sinfulness and seek deliverance from God's judgement, by Repenting of their sin and placing their trust in Christ alone for salvation. Like Peter, i say to Jesus, where else can i go... you have the words of life!

Theology in the midst of hardship

The more I think about life, the more I realize that theology is so important. Last week my wife lost her Aunt Ethel (nana) Orr. She was 95 years old. When my wife was young, her aunt used to babysit her and her sisters. When my wife and I were married in 1996, I remember visiting her and she gave us a large family Bible and wrote these words on the inside of the cover.. "Only one short life, will soon be past; only what's done for Christ will last."

She was very others-centered and took Christ's words seriously. One of the things I remember about her house was her large array of pie pans, cooking dishes and canned food. She would spend her time cooking and visiting people (elderly, disabled) in surrounding cities that couldn't make it out of the house to get groceries. She embodied Mark 12:31 - "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself". But you see it doesn't end there. She was also very concerned about evangelism. I thought we were super special by getting a Bible from her, but she would give each local High School graduate a Bible for the past 40 years. As her last request before she died she desired that donations be sent in her memory to the American Bible Society (they make many tracts too), PO Box 2854, Tulsa, OK 74101-9921. When we heard of her death on Friday, I gathered the kids around and opened up our big family Bible and told my kids about her inscription in the cover and her life. I told them that no one lives forever and one day we will stand before Christ. I then happily told them of how Nana will be in Heaven with Jesus Christ, her saviour. I could rest in the fact that Nana Repented of her sins and ran to her saviour in this life and was radically changed into a person that was zealous for the Lord that redeemed her. While the world cries over a loved one who dies because they are unable to see them physically, the biblical worldview is so happy to know that the person is resting in the Lord of life itself and doesn't have to fear death like the world, but is in Heaven with Christ. So Theology is so important when we consider death and hardship. I know that one day I will die, but I think about Nana Orr and her example to me to keep running the race, regardless of how the flesh, the world and Satan tries to mess with me. I will continue to try to witness to the lost, be a Godly leader for my family and help my brothers and sisters in Christ. So, you can read more about Nana Orr here, here and here.

Snow Problem

We are learning more and more about the winters here. Last year the snowfall amounts almost beat the Iowa record for snowfall and this year we are getting hammered pretty good again.

The snow is pretty, but dude, I have to get to work. So, on new years day we bought a cub cadet lawn tractor with a snow plow attachment. Today we got it installed and now I can cut through snow like a hot knife through butter!

Hopefully it will keep running during the length of the winter. It's as old as I am!

This morning i tried to go to work, I really tried. On friday, my car got stuck in part of my circular driveway, when i miscalculated where the gravel and the grass ended. I had at least 10 inches to deal with there. So on saturday, we made a family effort to shovel the whole driveway and get the car unstuck, so we could get out before the blizzard hit. So we did and got to make a run to walmart and buy some groceries. Snow was coming down pretty good before 3pm and we decided to get some last minute gifts for the kids and a movie and gift for our snow-bound anniversary (happy 13 anniversary honey!). So on our way home we got the overheat light on the van. So halfway home, we stopped the van in the snow in front of a home in the country. The nice man gave us some anti-freeze and the van guzzeled it down. We found that there was amount of green snow toward the back of the van and concluded that we were losing coolant. We asked the man for some water to refill the van again on the way home and made it home before the blizzard. We got the van into the driveway and got stuck half-way up the hill. So fast forward past the 30 to 40 mph winds and the snow blowing like crazy all weekend. I had to repair the windows twice in the animals area and put up plastic. I found that all the work we did on saturday was for nought. Snow drifts had recovered our driveway. This morning i got up extra early to get my car out of my driveway, so i could go to work. I tried to go around the driveway (dumb move) and got my car stuck in a snow-drift. I found it to be about 2 feet. After shoveling like crazy to get it back to the gravel part and moving it back up the driveway (in reverse), I found the van in my way (from saturday). So I pulled out the ice-melt and worked on it for a while to get it unstuck. I finally got it to move and put it back in place, then I went in reverse all the way out my driveway to the road. That is when the fun began. I drove quite a distance and then got stuck in a drift that had made it across the road. I put my car in drive and continued to spin wheels, I put it in reverse and made some progress back. I continued the process and finally got out...

I found the first drive to be a foot and a half.

..Then after I drove a little further I found another smaller drift that I proceeded to ramp. Then I ran into the Grand-daddy drift.

It goes on and on..

I didn't attempt that one and decided to double back. I decided to park it on the road and walk back to my house in the -20 wind chill.

It's great, you can actually feel your skin burning in the wind.

So, needless to say, I'm chillin' and coolin' just like the snowman today with my family and working from home. I'm so glad i work at a place where I can do that!

Naughty or Nice?

Now that our nation has a new president and the election is over, what is our response and where is our focus supposed to be? We can't vote anymore. We can only express so much outrage. Now what do we do? While it sickens me to think about what just happened, i have to realize a couple of really important things.

1. Is God in control?
As a follower of Christ, my answer has to be yes. What kind of God would not have control over his creation? He would have to be incompetent at best. NO! God is not that, he wills all things for a reason (if we knew that reason, we would be God). He even sets up rulers and brings them down. Why fret over this. Phil 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in all things by prayer and supplication make your request known to God. This means that instead of bugging out about obama, we can pray about it.

2. How much is too much?
As a Christian, we are told to make righteous judgments ("thou shalt not judge" is for people who judge others in a perfectionistic, i'm better than you attitude, not for those who seek to save that which is lost, ie see...Jesus, Peter, Paul..). One of those judgements includes making informed decisions about important issues. Researching candidates and what they believe is good and needed in an election for our president. But when the election is over, it can become idolatry. After all, there is something called the great commission (Mark 16:15).

3. Who do you trust?
The Gospel comes into play here. When a person becomes a Christian, he is radically changed by God. The central focus is that he no longer trusts in himself or Government, but places his trust in Christ. So instead of being overly concerned and freaked out about the latest events, he dies to himself and puts his complete trust in Christ, the one who saved him. So instead of saying, yes we can... the Christian says, Yes HE can.

So what do we do now? We focus on the Gospel and seek to Glorify God in every aspect of our being. Please, SERIOUSLY take the test below to hear the real change that America needs.

Cyclone and Hawkeye fans, take note. Before the trash talk gets too deep, before any more smack is laid down, or any more mud is slung, keep this in mind: We are not among the country's 10 most friendly states.

It's a scientific fact. So there's no need to make things worse.

A researcher at the University of Cambridge in England has finished an exhaustive study of U.S. personality traits that shows the Hawk ... er ... Cyclo ... uh ... 29th state to join the union needs to do some work to eclipse North Dakota, Minnesota and other natural rivals in all-around niceness.

Jason Rentfrow, who studies social and political science at Cambridge, is a Louisiana native who went to college in Texas. He has always been fascinated by regional attitudes and behavior, and how they influence such things as crime rates and life expectancy. His state-by-state examination of five key characteristics - Iowa didn't crack the top 10 in any of them - was based on 620,000 surveys over six years. The results make up a "U.S. personality map" that will be published in a prestigious psychology journal.

Here's how we rate:

- Iowa is behind Kansas, but ahead of those Texas grumps, in "extraversion," a measure of sociability.

- We are more agreeable than those contrarians in Indiana, but we rate far behind the yes-folks in North Dakota.

- Nebraskans are way more conscientious; New Yorkers, far less.

- When it comes to "neuroticism," which measures such things as the propensity for anxiety and stress, Iowa is somewhere in the middle of the pack.

- We are not very open. In fact, it is our worst category.

Rentfrow, who has never been to Iowa, said the overall scores are nothing to hang our collective heads over. In other words, at least we're not, say, Montana. And there's a chance that if we buckle down, we can improve.

"I think it's reasonable to suppose that a state's personality could go up or down over time," he said. "In general, I think the research is consistent with what I've observed in the regions I've lived in and visited. For example, when I lived in Boston, I found the people to be less friendly, helpful and relaxed than people in Austin, Texas, and our results are generally consistent with that."

As for openness, he said, Iowans can look at the numbers as a positive. "Indeed, low openness means that people are down-to-earth, practical, and value tradition," he said.

And when the tradition is Saturday's Big Game, it should be easy for a university scientist, especially at the second-oldest university in the English-speaking world, to predict a winner, right?

"I haven't a clue," Rentfrow said. "I'm afraid I'm not a big college football fan."

Looks like we are T-minus 36 days and counting until we move into our new residence. We need to get our items packed into all of our boxes from the basement (I was so tempted to throw those away). We already started packing books this week and will try to start packing a different group of items each week. The only problem is maneuvering around the boxes in our living room. But looking to our ranch in the boondocks though, we can hang pictures, mow our grass, have room to move around, get some critters to feed, do some farm livin'. We are all anticipating the move. Should be interesting the next couple of weeks. But, nevertheless we are so thankful to God for the house selling in Oklahoma and the ability to buy the new one.

Man, first we have the snowiest winter ever and now we get...

The flood of 2008.

We have been amazed at how much damage has occured in cedar rapids and surrounding cities. Our family was able to see the downtown area and visit the historic Czech village. We also were amazed at how much water actually was flowing along the cedar river. In May, I remember commenting to my wife on how much water was flowing through the river and when I mentioned the Czech Village to her and how close the river was to the museum, I said, "..man, they ought to put up a fence to keep kids from falling into the river from the museum". I wish we could have gone to the museum before the flood.

Contact: Linn County Emergency Management Agency
Water System Restored to Fifty Percent of Normal Operation

The Cedar Rapids water system is currently producing water at 50% of normal
operation. The increase from 25% is attributed to a second collector well
which has been returned to service. Water production capacity at the J
Avenue plant has been restored, but the restoration is tenuous. The priority
is to refill depleted storage and backwash plant filters. Citizens must
conserve water to protect the water system's capability to provide drinkable
water and maintain water in storage for fire protection.

To balance water demand which helps to maintain storage levels, residents
will be asked to use water according to the following schedule:

Street addresses that end in an even number shower, wash dishes and do
laundry on even numbered days.
Street addresses that end in an odd number shower, wash dishes and do
laundry on odd numbered days.
Priority water uses include:
drinking water
hand washing
fire protection
brief showers
food preparation
essential residential dishwashing (sink) essential residential laundry
essential light commercial water usage
essential light use to wash down flood debris by garden hoses only.

Lawn sprinklers and car washing using city water continue to be restricted.
Continued conservation by minimizing flushing of toilets is also requested.

The wastewater treatment system was completely submerged and is
non-operational. Continuing to limit water usage in Cedar Rapids, Marion,
Hiawatha, and Robins has the additional benefit of not creating wastewater
that will be discharged without proper treatment into the environment.

"We greatly appreciative the industries who voluntarily cut water usage from
millions of gallons a day in some cases to tens of gallons a day for
employee sanitary use only. This allowed the existing resources to be
reserved for critical health needs and system preservation." Pat Ball,
Utilities Director said. He continued, "Residents who also altered their
water consumption had an effect on maintaining levels to ensure that the
water system remained safe. Your continued assistance in conserving water is
essential to the long term recovery."

The City of Cedar Rapids thanks both Hiawatha and Marion and their residents
who shared their water supply with Cedar Rapids residents.

Previous to this, residents were not able to wash clothes, take a shower or flush toilets, in order to conserve water. We were not directly affected, since we are in another town, but it still makes you want to help as much as possible. Please pray for the families that have lost their homes and businesses.

We have also received an offer on our house and put an offer on a house up here! So please pray for us to use Godly wisdom in our decisions. Thanks!

We got to learn a little about the Amish/Mennonite community this week and vowed to be cautious next time we visit. It wasn't because of the reaction we got to handing out tracts (They were very polite). It wasn't because of their head coverings and strange traditions. But it was because of one thing....

The Historical attractions and the Food....

You can buy pounds of food in bulk for really cheap. My wife is learning to covet the fruit of self-control when she goes there. My wife bought... Assorted Dried fruits, Numberous candies, sprinkles, wheat berries, 20 lb back of rolled oats, numerous kinds of pasta, homemade items, bakery items (massive donuts!)...the list could go on and on...

We also made it in time for their semi-annual horse-pull and auction. Our kids got to see their buggies up close, horses and families pulling in to see the horse pull and buy some cool buggies. One buggy had cup holders built into the arm rests (for the amish guy who wants a refreshing ride.)

Out of Hibernation.

March 22nd I caught some kind of wierd flu type of bug that made me sleep all day and get alot of congestion, plus fever. I'm okay now, but my family is now going through all the fun I went through. It's almost like trickle-down economics. I get the benefits of coughing alot and get better, then my oldest daughter gets it, then my son and on and on.

Flu is getting busy this time of year.

But on a happier note, It is so nice to get out of the house now. The snow finally melted and now it's raining! I've never been so happy to see rain. The kids are happy to actually go outside (the healthy ones anyway)! My girls running down the hill in our backyard! The boys playing ball outside! The parents able to send the kids outside to play!

It may look like little house on the prairie, but it's like our backyard after the snow melted.

Anyway, Still waiting for our "little house" in Oklahoma to sell. But more importantly, please pray for us to have wisdom and to exercise good judgement in the months to come. Thanks!

A time to live, a time to die, a time to sell my old house.

Man, what's up with selling real estate lately? It's really tough to sell any house now-a-days. So far, we have had our house on the market for 4 months and nothing! No bites, no leads, no interest. We've even dropped our price by 14 grand so far! I suppose it's a great time to buy a house, but man, it's gonna be tough to have enough cash to buy a new one, after I bust down my selling price to the amount I bought it for (my house in OK).

I don't usually trust CBS, but... they have a point.

But, I guess this is happening everywhere, so what can you do? I'm resting in the fact that God is soveriegn and he is ultimately in control of everything. Even the hairs on my head (...there numbered y'know...). Prov 3:5,6 says to "Trust in the Lord with all your Heart and lean not unto your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths." So, if you would, pray on our behalf that our house would sell. We really would like to pursue, looking into a house and have the resources to buy a new one. But nevertheless, Thank God for his abounding mercy to us on this rare opportunity to be a missionary to this place. We'll be continually praying for that one special buyer to show up soon!

Nothing says welcome to Iowa like 56 inches of snow.

I keep asking the wife, "Does it ever end?". The funny thing is though, I think i'm used to it now. When it's 22 degrees outside, it doesn't even bug me. Too me thats warm now. -10 is cold. Anytime it's over +20 degrees, not a big deal. Man, i'm turning into an eskimo. Found that there is a real dryness issue here as well. The Static electricity is nuts and the skin gets really dry. We were informed that we needed a Humidifier to put Moisture back into the air during the winter time.

We bought one of these from Wal-Mart, it moisturizes the whole bottom floor.

Also heard about floods that take place during the spring... and basements that flood or something...oh boy..

Our new Church home

Well, looks like we've found our new church home. After scouring the Cedar Rapids area and checking with numerous pastors and asking them several annoying questions.

I found that only one pastor correctly answered my questions. We will become members of Northbrook Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids this Sunday.

Our family has met with several members already and they have been very hospitable to us for the Sundays that we have met there. On my first Sunday there (Before my family arrived), Eric and his wife asked me over for lunch and I asked him the questions, he wasn't annoyed and answered each one with the correct answer! Since then the pastor's wife has been over to visit my wife and got to meet with the ladies from the church at a women's meeting. My friends, the Andreani's, appreciate Eric's Biblically sound preaching and we appreciate Eric's heart for Evangelism as well!

Yesterday, I was given the go ahead to leave early from my employer and drive in a plethora of snow! It can be somewhat unnerving, however, to not see the outline of the road. :( Here are some of the interesting pictures I took on my trip.

Freaking Cold?

We got to watch the forecast last night and heard the weatherman actually say that tomorrow it's going to be "Freaking Cold" with the accompanying text graphic at the bottom of the screen that said "Freaking Cold". Today on the way to Sam's I saw a bank's marqee display -5 for the temperature. This evening it's supposed to get down to -15 degrees. Then the rest of the week we're supposed to get more snow. :(

Notice the "Wind Chill Advisory" link... that means that it could feel like -25.

Oh man, My family is finally here! Thank God! They got here just before Thanksgiving and we have been giving thanks ever since. We are all so glad to be back together again. I miss my family back home, but man I was really missing my family. If the Lord wills, I will never take such a long stay away from my family again! I have a new found respect for our service-men in our armed forces. It must be horrible for these guys to be away for so long! I can't even take a month. But the Lord is in control and he knows the score. Now that my family is here and family life is starting to get back to normal, I can now focus on evangelism and trying to meet other Christians here in the area. We went to a church last Sunday, that looked like our old church and the people were nice, but when I asked a number of questions for the pastor, he really seemed to have trouble answering some of them. :( It's like he was trying to bluff his way through the questions or something. So I'm off to another church. The pastor of this church successfully answered all of the questions and I had a good lunch with him and his family, so this Sunday we plan on visiting them. Anyway, thank you for praying for us, we appreciate it so much.

Well, today is the day! I went to my parents house and said some goodbyes to my mom, dad, brother and nephew. Got some snacks for the trip and then went to my friend John's house, who was cooking hamburgers and steak for me and a my friend Derek (who is leaving us to go to south korea as a missionary.) I checked the car to make sure everything is working correctly and the fluids are good. I've had a checklist that I've looked over a 100 times now. I think I'm ready to go now. I really don't think the reality of this has hit my wife and kids yet. I know after a day or so, it will hit me. Please pray for my safe trip up there as well as my family's stability holds up while I'm gone and of course, that the house sells soon.
